Тя, маската, успяваше да ме съхрани, предпази, най- вече от мен самия, поставяйки ми ограничения. Познавах нрава си. Сигурно щях да направя много грешки, за които да съжалявам. Още по- лошо- щях да наранявам, а не исках. Маската ме пазеше от хората, които се опитваха да проникнат в Душата ми, в чувствата ми, за да можеха да изиграят едно сиртаки отгоре им и да си тръгнат, мислейки си, че са победили. Исках понякога да не бъде на лицето ми, но се страхувах дали ще се справя без нея. Толкова бях свикнал да я нося.


Кога я свалих ли? Ще ви разкажа.
Обикновено не позволявах на никого да разбере, че тя съществува. Аз преценявах пред кого да я сваля, на кога да се доверя, но в последно време случаите, в които желаех да я махна, се разредиха драстично. Все пак, надеждата ми, че един ден ще мога да бъда по- дълго време без нея, се осъществи. И то- по най- неочакваният за мен начин...
Да, свалих си маската там, където най- не очаквах, но вътрешно сякаш го желаех. Беше минало много дълго време, откакто не я бях свалял пред жена, а сега точно това направих. Но пред каква жена ! С главно Ж!


Една вечер, на работното си място, малко преди да се прибера вкъщи, стоях и пушех поредната си цигара, любувайки се на зимната студена вечер, очаквайки напрежението от изминалият работен ден да поспадне. До мен спря някакъв Опел- стар модел. В него видях едно момиче, което с голяма страст целуваше шофъорът на колата. Познах я веднага- симпатичната млада колежка, дошла в колектива преди два месеца. Досега не бях я забелязвал. Излезе спокойно от колата и с уверена крачка мина покрай мен. Забеляза ме в последният момент, поздрави ме и влезе във фирмата. Тогава не знам защо, я последвах. Спря се пред кафе- автомата и си взе кафе. Нещо ме накара да си взема и аз. Не ми се пиеше, но исках да я заговоря. Получи се. За първи път погледнах на нея като на жена. Странно. Открих толкова приятни неща в нея. Бялото й лице, дългата черна коса и тези огромни очи, които сигурно бяха направили много мъже нещастни. Разбира се, не пропуснах да й намекна за флирта в колата леко саркастично. Не ме отрази въобще.
Минаха 4- 5 дни, преди да я видя отново. Докара я друга кола, но шофъорът отново получи целувка... Хм... Тогава си казах- " Искам и аз ! „
Изръсих най- глупавото нещо, под формата на въпрос . Направих го нарочно, за да я засегна. Тъкмо бях започнал да я харесвам, а тя скачаше като пчеличка от мъж на мъж. Та, въпросът беше : „ Колежке, Вие защо не започнете работа в някой бар? На пилона, естествено! Поне ще изкарате някой лев допълнително.”
Содом и Гомор. Ужас. Гръм и мълнии. И това само от поглед, който се задържа около 30 секунди върху лицето ми. Нямаше нужда да казва нищо, разбрах всичко. Но, за разлика от нея, аз не бях учуден. Ядосаното натъртване на токчетата й, отекваше дълго в ушите ми. Естествено, на следващият ден отидох да й се извиня. След ден- два станахме приятели. След един месец вече се чувахме всеки ден. След още един месец, аз свалих маската- беше ми приятно. След 4 месеца, поиска дете от мен. За миг се замислих, къде си бях оставил маската? Но беше късно за нея. Аз я обичах. И то много!


От този момент нататък аз вече не носех никаква маска. Но само пред Нея.

" Жътварят " - Тери Пратчет

За мен, до ден днешен, най- добрата книга на Тери Пратчет бе " Малки богове". До ден днешен. Но днес, мога да кажа, че " Жътварят" й е напълно равностойна по съдържание, стилизъм, смях, интерес и невероятните пратчетови епитети и небивали сравнения.
Може би, защото едно от главните действащи лица е така любимият ми образ на СМЪРТ.

В " Жътварят" обаче, СМЪРТ се пенсионира. И става страшно. Умрелите не са точно умрели и прераждането не е точно прераждане. Ако след като умреш, се завърнеш в същото си тяло, в същото време, което си обитавал приживе, това прави ли те зомби? И може ли един магъосник да бъде неумрял, след като точно е знаел кога ще умре? И какъв си всъщност, когато не си точно умрял, но и не си точно жив?

" Жътварят" грабва още с първите редове, описания и своята актуалност за времето. Времето на всяка една жива твар, което според Пратчет, се отмерва от животомери- пясъчночасовниковоподобни уреди, в които " дори няма пясък, а секунди, неспирно превръщащи " може би" в " беше" ". Животомери, заложени от боговете. За всеки. Дори за СМЪРТ, на когото е отредено още малко време. " - НЕ БИВА ДА СИ ПРАХОСВАМЕ ВРЕМЕТО!- Смърт донагласи седлото, после тикна златния си животомер под гърбавия нос на Албърт.- ВИЖ! ИМАМ ВРЕМЕ! НАЙ- ПОСЛЕ ИМАМ ВРЕМЕ!

Както знаем от предишни книги на Пратчет, СМЪРТ идва лично да вземе магъосниците, които пък лично знаят кога точно ще се споминат. С Уиндъл Пунс обаче не става така ... той трябва начин да умре качествено, за да дойде СМЪРТ при него, защото "това на нищо не прилича". И перипетиите му започват.

В същото време из Анкх- Морпорк стават странни , дори за това място, неща. Предмети се движат необяснимо, при Патрицият бушуват незнайни сили/ стихии или един бог знае какво, в Невидимят университет полилейте падат без причина, отнякъде нещо тупва без обяснение, стражите се виждат в почуда повече от всеки друг път. Рег Шу има братство за защита на всеки, застанал в празното пространство на Живот/ СМЪРТ. Един караконджул се страхува от каквото и да било показване, камо ли пък да плаши хората, но, с течение на времето успява да преодолее себе си. Някъде нещо се изгражда тихо и тайнствено, засмуква живота, хипнотизира с антимузика и единствените, които могат да спасят живите са неумрелите. Но, какво става със СМЪРТ? Може ли в него да се появят чувства, може ли той да подари Живот?

В " Жътварят" Пратчет ни среща с почти всичките си герои с оригинални реплики , едновременно разсмиващи и замислящи :
